It's truly amazing how misinformed and in the dark we can be about topics that are affecting millions of people everyday.

Please Check this Out

Kevin Sites is a journalist for Yahoo! and he visited our school last night for an interactive discussion/lecture. He is the future of journalism as he embarks on "solo journalism" - just him, a video camera, a laptop, and a still camera.

He is known for two big achievements. Back in 2004, he was the one who taped an American marine shooting an injured Iraqi in a mosque. He talked about the moral implications of releasing the tape and how much it affected him. You can view a video about the shooting here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=o4j50ghDeKA

The other thing he is known for is his Kevin Sites in the Hot Zone project. He visited 20 wars in 1 year. Going east to west he visited sites like the Congo, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and Myanmar. You can see his videos, read blog entires, and view pictures here: http://hotzone.yahoo.com.

He is the man's man of journalism.

The Good Life

Life is good.

Tennis is my new late afternoon hobby.

Greg recommended this book called 'Nickel and Dimed' and I finished it up last week. A writer does some investigative journalism and tries to work low-wage jobs and see if she can get by (rent, food, etc.). It really opens up your eyes to a different class of people and living. I was talking to a friend last week and he was saying that government shouldn't help out everyone and that people need to create a life for themselves. I think that's a very easy statement coming from a white male in Naperville. This book shows that that's not always possible as a lot of people are working 7 days a week and living in motels because they can't afford to pay a down payment on an apartment.

It's simply full of books. Books and tapeworms.

Today I read a book OUTSIDE.

In other literary news, my good friend and one Crystal Lake companion who doesn't put, "books, what's books" into his or her favorite book section on facebook, Greg Agnes took on and conquered War and Peace earlier this year. Amazon.com claims the book is 1472 pages and I have officially put it on my summer to-do list. I am living in Naperville this summer and shooting for an apartment with a balcony so my Russian literature and I can enjoy marvelous Naperville summer mornings on plastic furniture.

The apple juice will be flowing.

The New Craze

I just hit a sixty-five yarder during Field Goal Tennis.

A Sport Revolution

Corinne and I invented a new game with our tennis rackets. It's called Field Goal Tennis. The rules are simple: try to hit the tennis ball through the uprights from as far away as possible. It's epic. We played yesterday on our football team's practice field and after 5 hits my elbow needed reconstructive surgery. I hit - in my estimation - a forty-eight yarder, but there weren't any markers on the field so we'll have to move on to the real field for more accurate lengths.

I liked the game so much that I had a dream about it. But in the dream the balls changed to metal objects that we were trying to javelin throw.

Living on a Mountain in a Cabin

I'm on a reading binge and would like some recommendations if possible. It feels good to finish an entire book while still taking 10.5 credits and working. Until my girlfriend and I can play tennis every evening with our Goodwill rackets, I will continue to read - so recommend away.

When the address loads, click on the picture labeled 'street view'.

How cool is that?

A Box of Wine is in my Possession

Five of us are headed downtown tonight to celebrate our friend Jason Jamnik's 21st birthday. His lady friend attends DePaul and is kind enough to host us at her apartment. I hope she is nice and provides crackers.

Don't Waste Your Time

Nick ordered the new Muse Live DVD and we watched it last night. I got goosebumps every three minutes. Please check it out if you can. These guys are one of the best bands our generation can call our own.
