Peter Cottontail And The Demise Of The Carrot Tree

Nick and I were doing music department business today and we came across the new Junior Varsity cd in the mail. TJV - as the cool kids say - have slowly involved into one of my top ten favorite bands and my favorite chicago band. I've inadvertently seen them play at least 5 or 6 times just because they were opening for other bands I went to see, and I enjoyed them more and more each time. Eventually, this led me to claim them for my top ten based on the catchiness of their songs (check out "Get Comfortable"), the unique lyrics, and the wacky personality of their singer. This leads to today with the release of their new album, Cinematographic.

I had heard two songs released off the cd - and liked what I heard - but after listening to the new cd a couple times, I'm disappointed. The quality of the sound mixed with the songs themselves makes it feel like this album preceded the last one. There doesn't appear to be any progress made from the last album, minus some experimentation with sounds, and the songs appear stale.

I'll keep listening and hopefully it'll grow on me and I'll write how stupid I was for making such quick judgments.


In other news, Live Earth is going to rule the world. I know I will be glued to the tube on 7/7/07 for this world music event. Thank you, Al Gore. Also on this date, the new 7 wonders of the world will be announced. I voted, and you should exploit the democracy of this event, and use your vote as well.

I'm headed to Wrigley tomorrow night for my first Cubs game of the season. Should be a baseballin' good time.
